A Long Day followed by a Long Paddle followed by a Shorter Paddle.. and other stuff!

Good evening, on what is officially classed as the longest day of the year (the sun is at Its peak for approx. 3 days, with the 21st June being the last ) and isn’t it nice to be enjoying summer SUN at last! Reasonable weather should continue over the next couple of days but whatever the weather decides to do, at least it’s the Weekend!

Not too long a read tonight, as it’s far too nice to be stuck in here and there could be a chance of getting wet this evening.. and not by rain! So, what’s on this weekend, apart from the football..

The Shoreham Outrigger Canoe Club are hosting two race days. Saturday’s racing is the V6 canoes and they are doing a ‘downwinder’ between the two local rivers, starting at the Arun at Littlehampton and finishing at our very own Adur, in Shoreham. That is quite a distance, even though they will have a tail wind and the tide running with them, 26K will put them on a race time of 2-3 hrs… that is a lot of paddle strokes!  It starts at approx. 10am, so arriving at Shoreham somewhen after 12pm. Sunday the racing will be from Worthing to Shoreham and this will comprise of all classes (singles etc.). I do hope the weather forecasts are a little more accurate than they were for last Saturday. You can see all of the race info on the Outrigger Clubs website..

The current forecast for Saturday offers a glimmer of hope for most people, as although there is a chance of rain in the early morning and then between 11am and  1pm (earlier today Met said No to rain but now agree with Guru) the winds are 10-17kts West (poss. West’Nor’West) during the morning, which should be good for improving Wingers (Wing Foil Packages from only £1399.00!) and Kiters and then switching to Sou’West 14- 20kts during the afternoon, which should be just enough for Wind, Wings and Kites. The tide is a midday High, so SUP and Wings may get out on the river  (if wind is as forecast and they leave the new ‘hangar’ doors open, at each end). Sunday is looking dry, with wind from the Sou’West at 10-16kts all day. If you don’t want the wind, then the river(s) will offer paddling fun.. or you could do a Downwinder

Looks like last Saturday’s road traffic accident on the A27 Flyover that created gridlock is going to cause disruption for a while longer, as the exit slip road from the A27 westbound carriageway is said to be closing from 5pm to 5am this Saturday and Sunday for barrier repair works. It should not affect too many people who have been at the beach but perhaps exit earlier or continue on to the Lancing exit and head back along the coast road, if coming  down late afternoon.

I think that’s all I can muster for today and as I have already covered the weekends weather, all I need to do is mention the Tide Times, which are..  Saturday 12.15hrs on a 5.8m and Sunday 12.59hrs on a 5.9m, so plenty of water in the estuary.  The Shop is open 9.30 – 5.30pm Saturday and 10.00 – 4.00pm Sunday, should you be wishing to add a toy to the toy box.

Back tomorrow morning with the Beach Video, all being well!
