A stressful week, an Unlucky Friday, where's Lucas? UK and PWA comps and it's a Special Sunday, so don't forget!
Aye’up! There goes another week in paradise but as it’s the evening of Friday the Thirteenth, best we get on with the weekends party!
It's been another week of slowly repricing our stock on the website (think we are up to 'M') and trying not to take in what's going on in the real world. 2026 is bringing so much to get stressed about.. what is up with everyone? Thankfully, in our own little world, down at the beach, it has once again been reasonably warm and windy.. it’s definitely the best place to be!
Not sure what happened with the weather forecasts for yesterday evening, as after chasing ‘stuff’ blowing around the garden due to the expected high wind evening, I checked a couple of the local forecasts at 10pm and both said wind dissipating and going ‘quiet’ by 2am.. so why was I woken at 2.30am by lashing rain against the window and the gusts rattling the heavy roof tiles? I see that Lancing weather station recorded gusts of 44kts at that time, so I guess it wasn’t just a freak local event (not that Lancing has been particularly accurate for a while..). Maybe I just check the wrong forecasts..
No official news, as far as I know, as to where Lucas Meldrum is heading after parting with his Duotone sponsorship but there have been murmurs within the trade, none of which I will pass on as I’m sure Lucas will put a vid up telling all, when he’s ready (thought I knew but now thinking’ I’m wrong). Will be interesting to see where the new kit takes him.. perhaps he has headed North, to the Fraserburgh coastline for The Buchan Wave Classic. It's a new event for 2026 and is the second round of the BWA for 2026 (I think Troon was mentioned as the event location at one point). https://www.britishwavesailingassociation.com/buchan. The event has kicked off today but couldn’t find anything ‘Live’ on the net.. please add a link if you have!
The first BWA round was the Cornish Coldwater and you can catch up with that at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlAhIsCoJvs
The next PWA event will be the Maui Pro, which starts 30th March on a roll over schedule. There’s a nice vid by Tukuma Sugi on You Tube, highlighting the conditions of the first PWA event of 2026, which was held in Australia at Margaret River and it also shows just how good you have to be, to be joint 5th place ! (turn down the volume if the music’s a bit heavy). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kiiCSK26Lc
One thing not to forget this weekend, is that Mother’s Day or Mothering Sunday as we British like to call it, is this coming Sunday, which is always three weeks before Easter Sunday (are we that close to Easter!!). Whether you believe in celebrating this type of event is immaterial, as your Mother will. Time for the weekends weather.
Saturday, a Nor-West wind forecast to run at a meagre 9-15kt on Guru but with the MET only saying 9mph. Not enough to keep those of you who sail at the Witterings or Bracklesham happy and not much to keep anyone happy, if it is 9mph (unless you don’t want wind of course). No rain shown and a top temp of 10°C, which could feel warmer if the sun comes out ( we are coming up to three months after the shortest day now.. weather, get warm!). High tide is at 07.26hrs on a 4.4m Neap, which is tiny and therefore the tidal movement will be very small, so the waters edge will probably stay on the shingle at Low tide, which is at 13.40hrs.
Sunday, it improves, as we have an ‘almost agreed’ forecast for Sou’West 19-25kt during the morning and then increasing to around 25-36kt for the afternoon, so let’s be positive. Overcast with a possibility of rain but that should arrive late afternoon. Top air temp of 11°C. Sea temp is almost the same, as currently 9.7°C, so that’s going to help. High Tide is at 08.35hrs on a 4.8m, so slightly better than yesterday but still a ‘short’ tide. Now, here’s an interesting fact.. if the sea didn’t absorb atmospheric heat increases, which let’s say raised sea temperature by 2°C, the average World Air temp would be around 50°C ! I like it hot but that is worrying, for both those in and out of the sea. Perhaps we really should stop fighting and start sorting out our ‘home’.
And on that note, time to get out of here and head to my home! Hope everyone has survived today and that your weekend is one full of fun and frolics.
BFN.
Thanks to Windsurf Mag for the Buchan even pic.
