A Week is Less, RYA and the Angry Reps, Barbers or Baristas and.. a Weekend of Weather!
Cripes, that’s another week gone. Maybe, a week is not as long as it used to be? Maybe, it’s like everything you buy at the supermarkets nowadays.. same price but half the size! Maybe, they could take that into account when they devise the UK’s Inflation figures!! That was not a moan.. just an observation. Oh well, at least we’ve made it through to the Weekend!
If you are overseas, it was another mixed bag of UK weather this week. Another wet Monday, a very pleasant and windy Tuesday, a soggy and friggin cold Wednesday ( a tip of the hat, to those of you that ventured out on Wednesday, in 3°C less windchill!), a wet and gloomy Thursday and now, a windy and showery Friday. Tuesday brought hope but Wednesday blew that out of the water.. at least the evenings are getting lighter, when cloud cover permits! Can’t wait for that first warm day, which the MET think could be this coming Wednesday, where 14°C could be on the cards.. get the shorts ready and knot those hankies!
RYA Dinghy and Watersports Show is on at the Farnborough International Exhibition Centre this weekend and I bet all of the Reps having to attend are fuming, considering we have a ‘happy wind forecast’ for this weekend ( one that I spoke to earlier today said.. “bl##dy typical”! ). There are more foiling exhibitors there that we first thought, so I think anyone who is contemplating Foiling will not be wasting their time by going along, as you will gain vital information, which is paramount for a sport that has ‘many’ mechanical and technical difficulties, for most newcomers. No parking Fees (unlike the NEC..) and an entry of £10.00 for lucky students and £15.00 for Adults, so almost affordable! You can buy your tickets at.. https://ryadinghyshow.seetickets.com/event/rya-dinghy-watersports-show-2026/farnborough-int-exhibition-centre/3518579
In the next few weeks, we will be starting a Closing Down Sale to clear the stock, in preparation for a Sweeny Todd Barbers or a Coffee Barista to take over our prime beachside position ( I jest but it could turn out to be true). This will be done via the website, as well as the obligatory large posters on the windows, so if you’ve had your eye on something that we have in stock why not give us a call, as we will do our damnedest to offer you a ‘nice price’ now… we’d much rather it went to someone who has been a Surfladle Shopper during the last 40 years (sorry if I’ve made you feel old… te he). OK, now for the weekends weather and Tide times.. quite excited!
Saturday, kicks off with a Sou’West wind (hoorah!) 15-21kts and by early afternoon, it will have accelerated to 18-25kt. Air temperature should be around 11°C and the rain is possible from around 3pm (you didn’t think it wouldn’t rain, did you?). High Tide is at 13.32hrs on a 6.2m, so good for the river foilers and paddlers but it will curtail beach sailing from around 11am through to 3.30pm, at Shoreham. UV levels will be low, as will your tan factor.
Sunday, still Sou’West 20-28kt but by late morning it will drop back to 15–21kt and hopefully stay at that level until dusk, mores the pity, which now takes place at 6pm. A top temp of 12°C and sporadic rain showers during the morning but should remain dry for the afternoon. Tide hits High at 14.10hrs on a 6.1m, so again good for the river but will affect launching times from the beach (Littlehampton would be my first choice for sailing close to High).
And that’s a wrap for this week. Back with you in the morning via the Beach Vid, which should be a good one and we do hope your Friday evening goes to plan!
Chow, for now.
