Cold or Wet?? Met's New App, Farewell to Rob and Hello to Simon, MK's coming and so is Pilates!

Yahoo! Frigid has gone and been replaced by WET and warm..   I’m really not sure which I prefer after two days off in the rain but I do know that I’m glad to be at the Weekend! (if overseas, we’ve had a lot of rain in the last week).

Honestly, going to keep it short this evening, as Friday has shot by and I have the Nephews daughter’s 18th  birthday party to attend, so can’t be late tonight. Moving on swiftly..

The new MET Office App, have you seen it? Really nice to see that they have put together an informative display with a greater ‘depth’ of information but… why do I have to see adverts? They’ve never been on the MET site before and the number of Pop-ups are a nightmare nowadays. I quite understand them being on commercial sites but not on Government run informative sites, please!

Tide Tables, our apologies but after 30 odd years of selling our printed copies and giving the sale proceeds to the R.N.L.I, we are no longer able to supply,  so the best place if you would like a printed version is here… https://www.tidetimes.org.uk/shoreham-tide-times-20260118

Pro.Sew, Rob Stack, over at Rustington, has been doing our sail repairs since Mick Smith packed up, which was many years ago now. Well, those many years have now flown by for Rob and his time doing repairs has also drawn to a close, so Pro.Sew as we know it is closing but we do have a new sail maker taking over Rob’s work. Simon Dawkins, who anyone that sails around here will know of,  made SD windsurfing sails for many years before moving over into architectural work but now must fancy a return to where it all started for him. He is located at Shipley, near Horsham, so not too far to go.  Our thanks to Rob for all of his hard work and kind hearted help with keeping everyone on the water..   here’s his farewell message link, with Simons contact info as well. https://www.instagram.com/p/DTSuz47iJP0/?hl=en

MK Booms, always a popular name locally as this is where they originated, back in the dark murky past of windsurfing. Larry Chan has been in charge for many years now but due to new ventures, has passed the batten onto Wouter Ardern at Seasprite Sports in Rustington (Ezzy, Chinook, RRD and Atan Importer). Stock will be arriving April and pricing will be up slightly, due to the inevitable price increases that have occurred since Larry’s last consignment, which arrived at least a year or so ago, but a wave 140cm will still be under £500.00.

And finally, if you’re  feeling like your fitness level is drooping and you need to get things going, a new Pilates group is kicking off, on the beach. Well, not on the beach but up at the Sailing Club ‘on the beach’. There’s classes for newbies, those already into it and then there’s an extra especially ‘tough’ version, designed for those that like to hurt! Sounds great?… you can find out all about it at www.secretbeachpilates.co.uk

Now for the weather, which is where this ‘short post’ all started!

Saturday,10-15kt Windguru and 7kt Met, both say Sou’Sou’East during the morning, backing East 8-11kt Windguru and Sou’East 8kt Met, during the afternoon. Air Temp is 9°C and no rain is shown after 9am but who knows. Only one High Tide version and that is at 10.16am on a 5.5m.

Sunday, Wind guru say 10-15kt East’Sou’East all day but the Met say 8kt, same direction. Air temp could hit 11°C and  once again, no rain shown after 7am.. must be because I am working!  High Tide will be at 10.54am on a 5.7m.

And that’s it for another week in 2026. Sad to see Cornwall is seemingly being ‘left to it’ after severe storm damage by Goretti. Hardly any coverage on the National News and not much in the way of Government help, heading their way, even though some people are still without electricity. And on that note.. please forgive any typos and I’ll be back in the morning with another episode of Shaky Shoreham Beach.

Have a great weekend everyone.
