Easter is here, RNLI Balloon racing, SSSI SUP Safari and the Wind Bunny is about!
Good Friday and the Easter weekend is already well under way, so I guess this post is a day late! Not that it matters, as we have a wind forecast for all four days! Two or maybe three are good for most and one and a half that will suit the wing foils. An Easter without rain would be too much to ask for but hopefully we will get the rain out of the way today (forecast showing wetness arriving around 4pm and going on into the evening, so I get wet walking to the pub). Currently we have 9kt East'Sou'East. More on that in a mo.
April 20th sees the start of the RNLI Virtual Balloon race… odd as that may sound. Not quite sure how it works but the virtual balloons are launched and by using live weather info they are virtually tracked to the finish on April the 25th. You can buy your balloons on line and then customise them for looks and performance.. must be worth a go as there are prizes to be won and all the proceeds go to the Lifeboats. Info at the below address but entries need to be in by end of play today, as far as we understand. https://www.balloonrace.net/slse...
So, back to the weather. The current forecasts are..
Today. 12-17kt East'Sou'East but decreasing late this afternoon when the rain arrives, which will be with us overnight and into Saturday morning. Air temp is given as 13°C, which it was when we arrived this morning. High Tide is at 14.55hrs on a 5.5m.
Saturday looks to be on, once the rain has cleared and if you like Port Tack, as the wind is switching to the East 12 – 24kt and possible veering East’Nor’East by the end of the day. Rain should have ceased by 9am (hope it has, as it’s the Saturday Morning Shaky Vid) and then dry for the rest of the weekend. High is at 15.33hrs on a 5.2m and the air temp is given as 12°C (we want 20°C!).
Sunday, we are into the offshore winds with a brisk Nor’East 13-19kt during the morning and then backing East later in the afternoon 9-15kt. This may suit the foils, due to their ability to ‘point’ into the wind, to get back to the beach. Air temp will be 15°C , as the sun is due to show itself. High is at 16.26hrs on a 4.9m Neap.. not great for Adur river SUP’ing.
And finally, Monday, this one will be for the SUP’s during the morning, as the winds become light and cyclonic (no set direction) but watch out, as by the afternoon the winds pick up to 10 -15kt Sou’West (Guru say 15-21kt). It should be a sunny day and an air temp of 13°C (may be better than that in the sun).
Tide hits High at 17.56hrs on a 4.6m tiny tide (very little sand on show).
Now, most importantly, our opening times over the Easter break are..
9.30am to 5.30pm today and Saturday.
10.00am to 4.00pm Easter Sunday and Bank Hol Monday.
A quick reminder about next week’s Sunday Paddle Safari on the Adur, which is being led by Sam from the SSSI and is on from 10.15 to 12.45hrs (due to the TIde). If you own a SUP and are interested in the river’s ecology and how your paddling with care can help it, please contact Sam on 07714 016648 to book your spot. https://friendsofadursssi.org.uk/events
And that’s it for now, back with you tomorrow morning.
