It's Warm, It's Windy, The CCC is Go, The FBC WQB is here and the RYA are Showing off in Farnborough!
Friday is here once again, which must mean it’s the weekend!
A bit of a change has taken place this week, weather wise and I’m sure a lot of you will say it’s for the better, even if we do now have rain. After that long cold spell, which to be fair was cold enough to warrant not even considering venturing onto or into the water, yesterday’s ‘change’ was more than welcome and there’s more to come. Inland the temps are reaching the dizzy heights of 14°C today (I went for a run yesterday morning, which was almost a water sport and the rain did feel ‘warm’) but down at the coast we are hovering around 9°C, due to the sea temp being just 8°C. A mixed weekend to follow but more about that at the end.
The Cornish Coldwater Classic, sponsored by Duotone UK (Nik Bakers K66 org) is Go, with a forecast of solid wind today, a not so good Saturday and then a very windy 50kt Sunday, with a 4.6m swell prediction, which will make it a very interesting day! Loads of pictures on Windsurf Mags site of Thursdays warm up sessions (Windsurf is now run by John Carter, hence a lot of pics J ) but very little in the way of who is competing and what is happening when or where, so if you’ve found a good ‘source’, please paste a link. There’s a new bag on the block from FBC, which is there Wing Quiver Bag. The bag is designed to carry everything wing wise apart from your board and what’s a bit special about this bag is that the PVC interior lining is designed to make it as watertight as possible, so perfect for keeping the car or van dry. The base material on the outside of the bag is a heavy-duty PVC, so it should survive rough treatment if dragged by a baggage handler, it has four compression straps , a protected zip with twin sliders (metal, so they will need a bit of care) front and rear handles and a double strap centre handle. It does not have a side handle, as that would not keep the water in the bag when lifted but it would be nice for airport use I guess. It’s a 145 x 50 x 30cm bag , so it would also work well for many kiters that want a bag to put all of their twin tip kit into. The really nice thing about this bag.. it’s only £129.00! One in the shop at the moment, should you be interested, but we can get more if there’s a rush. J https://www.surfladle.com/fbc-wing-quiver-bag-145cm
The RYA Dinghy and Watersports Show is on this weekend at Farnborough, which is not that far away. Dear Google says 1.5hrs / 47 miles from Shoreham. The show covers nearly every water sport going, so there is always a lot to see and plenty to keep minds of all ages active. The show has attracted more board sports suppliers in recent years, so you should get to see a lot of wind, wing and foil kit, along with the people that know all about the products. It’s reasonably priced as well, as Adults enter at £14.00 for one day or £21.00 for both and up to four children under 16 years old are Free entry (Students are £10.00 and £15.00). More info at..

And now, the weekend weather and tide times..
Saturday, the wind will be from the Sou’West, 8-11kt during the morning and 12-17kt during the afternoon according to Guru.. the Met say West in the morning 5 -13kt and then West’Sou’West
7-15kt during the afternoon. Rain showers in the morning but dry after that and a top temp of 12°C. The Tide hits High at 18.14hrs on a 4.4 Neap, so Low at around midday (the tide will hardly get past the end of the rock groynes).
Sunday, hmmm.. Guru suggest a Southerly 20-28kt wind pretty much all day, whereas the Met say 16-31kt Sou’Sou’West all day. Both say no to rain but we will see. Tide hits High at 19.41hrs on a 4.6m, so Low tide is again around midday. If it is bolt onshore with the Neap Tide, that will make launching an interesting affair!
And that’s that for another week in Paradise. We hope your Half Term went well and if not, could it have been worse!? Do have a great weekend and you can rest assured that we will be here, as we have, every weekend, during the last 30 years.. oh Lord, should you be in Need!
