More Wind Please.. less wind please plus a Pocket Pack-away!

More Wind Please.. less wind please plus a Pocket Pack-away!

Wind.. Wind.. Wind and still more Wind… it’s a good job you’ve got a weekend to get over it!

Yes, there goes another 7 days of windy weather and although not every day was ‘High Winds’ , we have had usable wind nearly every day, which is amazing for some or an absolute nightmare for others, depending upon your sport.  For those that are amazed, you should have a very happy weekend but do watch out on Saturday, as there is now a Yellow Warning for Thunderstorms in our area, so lightning could be flashing about. I say could as there is no thunder shown on the Met App, only in the Yellow Warning, which is sort of confusing. More on that in a mo..

RRD have just launched a new Para wing for foiling called the Pocket. Conventional in regards to most other Para wing designs but they have a new system to assist stability, which is a floating bridle line connection system on the bar (*I have vague recollection that Roger Chapman did something like it on his early kite bars?). This is what RRD say about it…

‘ This system significantly reduces the wing’s nervousness, absorbs gusts, and ensures a smoother, more controlled power delivery. Unlike any other wing on the market, it minimizes sudden pulls, helping riders maintain balance and stability while maximizing performance’.

The Pocket will be initially available in 3m and 4m size options, with a 2m and 5m versions to follow shortly. Prices are £749 for the 3m and £809 for the 4m.

The Pocket is on our website and there’s a link there to a ‘talk you through it’ video with Camille Bouyer.

Keeping it short tonight, as I’m sure you have plenty to do on a windy Friday evening, so let’s go straight to the Weekend weather…

Saturday, 12-18kt Sou‘West first thing but increasing to 18-30kt by mid-afternoon. Air temp is said to be around 14°C with rain showers all day and as I mentioned at the start, they are suggesting thunderstorms for our area, so do watch for those dark clouds and increases in wind speed before the ‘storm’ arrives, as the wind tends to stop dead and then comes back ‘offshore’ for a long’ish period before eventually swinging back and picking up again.. not nice. High Tide is at 09.30hrs on a 5m and as there’s not a huge amount of tidal movement on a 5m Neap, we could possibly have a ‘trough’ (you walk in to launch and it suddenly goes ‘deep’).

Sunday, a period of Nor’West 12-19kt during the morning and at around lunchtime they say it’s back to West’Sou’West 17-26kt during the afternoon. It should be a dry day but temps will be around 15°C, so not that warm again. Sea temp has been up to 15.3°C but has dropped back today to 14.7°C, which is the average temp for June.  Tide hits High at 10.16hrs on a 5.2m, which is moving away from the Nasty Neaps.

That’s about it for this week. I see that Beach Dreams is on next weekend, so I guess the organisers will be doing a ‘No wind- No Rain’ dance..  current outlook suggests they may get lucky.

And for all of those Happy Shoppers out there, we have ‘many offers’ on SUP boards.. prices from £249.00...  and a couple of the 125lt and one 90lt RRD Beluga Wing Foiling packages still available (composite boards, not Air), at the stunning price of £1399.00 for board, foil and a wing. Sales pitch over.. going home!

Have a great weekend and I’ll be back.. with the Windy Beach vid in the morning.. all being well!

Chow.
