Shoreham is all Rock and Raft this weekend!!
Friday once more and yet another week of Summer 2025 has been gobbled up by Time.. that ever-ticking clock that tends to govern our lives. But the good news is that you won’t be able to hear the ‘tick’ over the next couple of days… as it’s the Rock Shoreham Weekend.. turn that volume up to Eleven!
Yes, Shoreham is the venue for Tribute Band Mania, which is quite fitting at the end of a week when ‘Time’ was called on Ozzy Ozbourne. Maybe not everyone’s idea of a great musician but he was a showman and iconic in what he did. I would say Rest in Peace but when you see the line up for the Saturday concert Ozzy would be overjoyed, as they are all Hard Rock Tribute bands (Sunday’s line up is a little more ‘pop’ ) and are likely to be Lemmy Loud. I guess if you live opposite the Adur Rec, you might as well go, as you are going to have to listen to it anyhow. Tickets for the Tidal Gathering are still available and not that expensive at £16.00 for an adult but I’d expect it to be arms and legs for food and drink once you’re in , as you cannot take ‘anything in’. The rules for entry are found at.. https://tidalgathering.com/tidal_gathering-faqs/
Traffic and parking has not been an issue in previous years, so fingers crossed it won’t affect the beach too much. So that’s one thing occurring in a ‘happening’ Shoreham by Sea this weekend.
Another event, which is more of a fun and healthy orientated one, is the Shoreham Yacht Club Annual Raft Race which takes place on Saturday. https://www.shorehamraftrace.co.uk/
The raft race kicked off in 2019 (the last year before Covid changed the world..) after many locals decided that they missed the original Bath Tub Race that had taken place from 1971 to 2006, but at which point it was deemed to fail Health and Safety, due to some people thinking it fun to throw stones at the competitors (eggs and flower bombs were always there but generally dropped onto the bath tubbers as they passed under the Upper Beeding bridges). The ’new and improved’ event kicks off at the Yacht Club at 1.15pm and they now race a circuit finishing back at Coronation Green, which is on the town side of the footbridge. It’s all in aid of charity, so do take a few notes or coins along with you to put in the collection buckets. Just as a note, if you are thinking of wing foiling on the estuary, it might be worth being prepared to give it a miss, as we would not want any collisions to occur during this event.
Wind is also on the cards for the weekend (at the moment). Saturday, Guru and the Met are suggesting an 11-21kt Sou’West wind from early afternoon, with a possible rain shower at around 5pm, so if paddling is your thing, the morning looks to be a better bet. Sunday ‘could’ be windier, even though Guru show it as a Nor’Nor’West wind and the Met say Nor’West, as historically that’s perfect for getting the sea breeze going, which turns the direction to the West and generally accelerates the wind speed as well. 9-20kt is the current forecast and now that I’ve said that, it won’t turn! Guess I’ve just done the weekend weather, so may as well add the Tide Times. Saturday High is at 13.26hrs on a 6.2m and Sunday it’s at 14.06hrs on a 6.3m (may be windy enough for foiling on the estuary without any concerns).
Customers have mentioned that there are two marker buoys now situated at the entrance to the channel that runs from the estuary out to the ‘pond’ by the Dogs Trust. They are there to ask or I guess tell people not to proceed into the channel, as it is in the SSSi area and now classed as a Private Nature Reserve. And I think that’s enough for another week. I hope your last weekend in July is a cracker and that the weather holds up (only seems to rain on my days off). More good news is that you won’t have to endure a shaky Saturday morning vid, as I have to be somewhere else tomorrow and we may have to close the shop a little early on Sunday, as if I cannot get back James has an appointment that he cannot miss.. our apologies but please call to check we are open prior to coming along Sunday afternoon. Good luck to the ladies England Football team with their European Final against Spain on Sunday. Kick off at 5pm.
That’s it, enjoy your evening!
