After another week of endless Blue Skies, which is odd, as it normally pours with rain when the Fun Fair is on the recreation ground.. we are once again at Friday evening and the Weekend is upon us and for some, it’s the start of their two-week Easter Vacation! You lucky…

It’s an early start to the Easter Hols this year, as we don’t get to the Good Friday and the Easter Weekend until the 21st, but with the current sunny and dry weather patterns, I’m sure most would rather ‘take it now’, than risk waiting! We all know ‘the change’ will come at some point. Easter Camping could almost be classed as ‘possible’, with it being so dry and quite warm during the day… now there’s a thought. The Sun has been great but March is supposed to be a wet and windy month, which was probably one of the most anticipated months for wave sailing (in the now distant past) but this March was probably the most settled weather we’ve ever known in thirty years of being in Ferry Road. The forecasters have again said that this April could be the warmest on record but I think we should wait and see, as once a prediction is made you can usually expect the opposite. As for wind, we are getting it on a daily basis but sadly from a Nor’East direction, which suits foils but does nothing for those who like to be in direct contact with the water and would love a few waves to play on. If only we could have the same wind quota from the Sou’West.. dream on!

Due to the HEAT, now is the time when all of our stock 6/4mm Wetsuits, Hoods and Beanies need to go, so you will get a 25% discount off the RRP or a Web Price match, should a UK shop be offering a lower price. Our website won’t have those discounts shown just yet, as we would rather our customer base had the first pickings, so please come along or give us a call.

Tariffs are the buzz word at the moment and it looks as though the UK will be hit, as we are seemingly benefitting very little from having an almost equal trading relationship with the U.S. Where and when this will affect Watersports equipment pricing is hard to predict but the longer a Tariff War goes on, you can pretty much guarantee prices will rise. At least we are on the right side, as with most boards, windsurfing sails, kites and wings all being made in the far East, we won’t be paying as much as our fellow Americans will. The last thing any of us need is higher prices! Where will it all …

Just a quick word on the hot air temp (23°C noted North of the Downs) as today we have had many enquirers through the doors asking about swim suits and shorts.. as they all remember the water temp as it was, at the end of last summer.  The current water temperature is 8.9°C which when combined with an air temp of 18°C is a perfect scenario for the deadly Cold-Water Shock syndrome. This is the tech talk… Cold water shock (CWS) is an involuntary response to the body being suddenly or unexpectedly immersed into water which has a temperature of less than 15 °C.

You would not believe how many young people have walked to the beach today, wearing what you would expect them too in August. As always, do try to warn people if you see them heading for a disaster, especially with their children (usually recognisable by the blue skin colour after ‘a dip’) as a few words could prevent a tragedy.  Now for the weekends weather and tides..

Saturday, the weather will be sunny and warm, with those Nor’East winds  ripping, at 14-26kt pretty much all day. To get the best, head East to Pevensey or Nor’East to the North Kent Coast. Locally, the wind will be usable but it’s an offshore wind, so please take care. High Tide hits at 17.38hrs on a 4.9m, so Low is midday ‘Ish but as it’s a Neap tide (not much sand for dog walking..) the water depth will suit foils. As far as SUP’s go, an evening paddle on the river could be nice..

Sunday, the winds will back off to around 12-20kts and become Easterly by the afternoon, which will suit Shoreham a little better, direction wise. Sunny again, so all in all, a lovely weekend ahead! Tide is High at 19.09hrs on a slightly smaller 4.8m Neap.

And that’s it for the first weekend in April 25. Summer feels a lot closer now and perhaps we will have the one that we dream of..  which was the one that came along during COVID! You couldn’t make it up..

Ta’ta.
