The weather outside is.. Duotone about to... Severne and others Offer.... and Cold Water Comp Calls!

Well, maybe not quite as mild a week as we had hoped for (most mornings ’inland’ have seen frost) but there was a hint of warmer times to come, when the glorious Sun was shining brightly. Typically, we get to Friday and it’s all change to  gloomy weather, but hey, at least it’s the weekend!

Tuesday’s reasonably mild temperature and the 20-27 knot wind was enjoyed by many (for the time of year) with Worthing being a popular coastal location (due to the Tide time) as well as Bewl water, with both Wing’ers and Windsurfers congregating at the reservoir, looking for flat water fun..  and a hot shower at the end of it! There’s also been a reasonable swell at times and I believe that East Witt was working on Wednesday (anybody head over there.. Simon?) so water sports have still found a place in our winter wonderland. February is always a ‘hard’ month, with extreme weather patterns and for the next week or so, it looks to be winter orientated, with the possibility of a chilling Easterly Beasty turning up around the 12th if the Met are right or the 19th if Windguru are but I do hope they’ve got it wrong. A few brave souls I understand were heading to Pevensey today for the Nor’East blow but the wind stats are already showing the wind as more Easterly and a steady 20-25kts, so although we’ve had sleet and a few snow flurries making the 4°C air temp slightly less pleasant, they could be having (or had..)  a good session. It’s only cold…

Duotone are launching new Wing Foil products in the Spring (wings and boards) and I would love to post the info tonight but having posted ‘early’ in the past, I thought I should just check with Nik Baker when the products can go Live. Glad I did, as it’s the 12th February, so they will stay hidden away until then.. sorry.

Severne UK have been slowly but surely selling through their previous years Clearance Sails, which at the prices they are, especially when compared to current 2025, are a bargain. With ‘new’ prices likely to rise again, due to the drop in the interest rate and the Pound in your ‘phone’ not fairing as well as it could, purchasing previous years sails could save you £300.00 a sail. The sails available can be found here.. https://www.surfladle.com/sails/severe-sails Give us a call if you need to know mast compatibility etc. Other manufacturers also have sails on offer, so do ASK if you are contemplating..

The Cold Water UKWA Wave sailing events kick off in Cornwall a week today, with two roll-over dates to allow for a no-wind (or too much wind..) situation to be averted. The first date is February 14th – 16th (there will be a lot of ‘partners’ dead chuffed that Valentine’s has been called off..) and if that’s a no go, then it rolls over to the 21st to the 23rd. There will obviously be Hove Lagoon interest, as Lucas Meldrum who was mentored at the Lagoon will be there to start his UK season with a win, but another name from the Lagoons past.. a certain Mr Ryan Humphrey who now resides in Hayle, who has also entered the event (according to his brother Adam, who dropped by earlier today). Good luck to them both and if you want to get all the details, as well as read up on how Lucas has prepared himself for the comp, here’s the link.. https://www.britishwavesailingassociation.com/cornish-coldwater-classic

Rain will make my trek to the pub tonight a very slow muddy affair, so time to move on and see what the weekends weather is looking like.

Saturday, early morning, the wind will be from the Nor’East 15-20kt but by around the time I take the shaky beach vid (if I’m not stuck in the mud..) it should have turned to Sou’East 14-19kt and then progress further to Sou’Sou’East , running at 14-18kt for most of the daylight hours. Temp is given as 7°C tops and a possibility of showers during the day (they keep moving the times rain is expected). Tide is High at 07.16hrs on a 4.9m, so Low will be at around 1.30pm but it’s a Neap, so the Tide will not go out very far, should you be thinking of coming to the beach to walk the dog.

Sunday looks to be a tad dismal at the moment, with East’Nor’East winds all day, ranging from 11-18kt. Rainfall is currently shown as in for the day.. but with sunny periods, with a top temp of 7°C, so not exactly what we would have liked! Tide hits High at 08.44hrs on a 5.1m. Oh well..

Last of all, we are constantly watching what is being pumped into our rivers but not in recent history has the Adur ever turned Red, as did the Sarandí River on the outskirts of Buenos Aires in Argentina yesterday.

Have a great weekend, whatever the weather!
