Time and Clocks, Plumes and Frigates, Nets no more and still Open on the Door.
Friday evening has come around again and that wonderful word, namely Weekend, is now with us.
Well, we are now at the second weekend of October and not only are the evenings noticeably drawing in but the mornings are also drawing out. Dusk is currently 6.52pm in West Sussex but in two weeks’ time, the 26th October, the poor old clocks fall backwards, thanks to the clocks changing, which goes back 109 years. Germany, shortly followed by Great Britain, initiated it for energy saving and to allow longer working shifts for the war effort, therefore not the Farmers fault as most believe.. (I don’t mean Nic the Farmer.. ). So, for the next two weeks, make the most of the evening light we currently have. Now, Foils and Para come Pocket come K-Wings..
Had a few questions raised recently regarding what the difference is between the kite orientated K-Wings and the Pockets. The majority of wings available at the moment, as per Units, Scores, Flights, ADX, Strikes etc. etc. are classed as all-round, allowing reasonable upwind and downwind performance for the rider. Pocket wings came about as a standard wing can be cumbersome when playing on downwind swells or waves, so a wing offering the ability to fold up allows the rider to play without anything in the way. That was all quite clear, but so why do some companies, as per F-One now offer std Wings as per the Strike, Swing and Origin, a pocket wing as per the Frigate and also the kite orientated K-Wing, called the Plume? Well, it appears that the Plume is the halfway house, offering foilers a more stable wing than the Pockets, which are not renowned as being particularly stable, and with a better upwind capability but still less cumbersome than a proper wing, for swell time or wave riding. Whether a K-Wing could or will take the place of current normal wings within the sport will become apparent with time but currently standard wings still hold the crown. If you have a moment, take a look at this F-One promo. It explains why a leading-edge inflatable on lines has crept into the toy cupboard. Prices are £799.00 for the 3m and going up to £899.00 for the 5m, which includes bar and leash but a pump is required and is an extra. The Frigate Pocket Wings are £830.00 for a 1.9m going up to £1175.00 for a 6.5m (no pump required!).

The below link takes you to the Questions and Answers section, in case you miss it on the website.
No more info on what happened regarding the fishing net occurrence last Monday, apart from that the Coastguard was officially asked to look into it. Please do let us know if a net is spotted when out on the water and we can then let others know that it’s there.
No more news regarding where we are with the shop sale to tell at this point in time but it’s likely that the shops opening times will alter, after the clocks change on the 26th. I will update everyone just as soon as that decision is in place. OK, must be time for the weekends tide times and weather.
Saturday, it’s not looking exciting but it’s also not looking wet. Wind is from the Nor ‘East 2- 4kt during the morning and then backing East’Sou’East 4-8kt for the afternoon. Weather is overcast with a top temp of 16°C. Sea Temp currently 16.1°C, so slightly warmer in the water! Tide is High at 14.40hrs on a 6.3m, perhaps a good weekend for river paddling but do watch the time, as when the estuary empties, it will go ‘fast’ (biggest movement on the 3rd and 4th hour after the High tide).
Sunday, the wind has a bit more vigour and will start off the day with a brisk Nor’ East 9-14kt. Once again backing East’Nor’East and possibly East during the afternoon, 10-16kt. Top air temp 17°C and sunny spells, so it should be a good afternoon for foils or for whatever it is you have in mind. Tide hits High at 15.26hrs on a 5.8m.
And that’s it for this week, apart from mentioning that we still have a good selection of ladies wetsuits (up to size 42) all of which are ‘heavily discounted’ . All on view at https://www.surfladle.com/ladies-wetsuits (big savings on front zip suits) and the clearance windsurfing fins I mentioned a week or so ago are now all on the website https://www.surfladle.com/windsurf-accessories/windsurfing-fins/clearance-windsurfing-fins
Have a great weekend and enjoy the great outdoors!
Toodles…
