Weather still weird, it's Go Go Go GB, a Thank You from Alan plus there's a great weekend ahead!
Heck, well there goes another week of summer 2024 and once again, we’ve had a bit of everything thrown at us weather wise. It’s often said that you can never get ‘bored’ with UK Weather but it’s not all ‘hot’ in other parts of the world either, where you may think that the sun always shines.. must be time for a weekend!
Aloha. Yes, the Hawaiian Outrigger Sprints have started in Hawaii and you can follow our GB team (pretty much from Shoreham) on You Tube or Facebook. The event started officially today but yesterday saw the opening ceremony and it was .. raining! Yes, even paradise gets rain (quite a lot at times, I seem to remember) so that should not be a surprise but I really was so surprised to see the number of people attending.. worth taking a look I assure you and the UK does get a mention re. what a great sprint lake we have at Dorney. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ly9DtAWPy48 This channel is covering the racing as well, which starts today and will be online later tonight, as they are approx. 11 hrs behind us.
I know I have warbled on about the offers on Wing packages for many a week now but we have had some unhappy faces in the shop recently (ours!), when customers have come in to get a package and sadly we have sold out of the size or price point that they were hoping for. They are moving through now and although we may see more ‘wing’ offers over the next month as the new models arrive, the boards and foils I am in doubt over, as the companies are indeed ‘hurting’ from having to sell the kit at below cost, just to make room for the new kit arriving . And as for inflatable paddleboards, the same applies there, as we are now out of certain types (touring boards are very low) and although some suppliers still have clearance stock, it is staring to dry up (it’s been said that 85% of ISup Manufacturers have switched production or have closed). Food for thought..
Thanks to all of the wing foilers who have been adhering to the rigging area and signed pathway to the water down at.. or on the estuary. It’s all still up in the air though (Jes Wooton is working hard to get the legal side of it tied down, so many thanks to him) but we hope to eventually have a working agreement with both the Harbour Authority and Natural England, who look after the SSSI. As for parking on the Old Shoreham Road A283, please take as much care as you can not to upset the local residents, as parking on that road is at a premium (tuck your mirrors in as well!).
Also, many thanks to the windsurfers down at Widewater who took the time to give Alan from Orpington a little advice on how to deal with Shoreham Beach during a Neap Tide and an onshore’ish gusty wind (slightly more than was forecast). He was so grateful to everyone that he chatted with and although ended up doing a little stroll back along the beach (as everyone has!!) he had a great time. I am glad to say that it has kept our welcoming and happy aura in place! Shoreham-by-Sea, the place to be. Being brief again this week, as the evenings are already drawing in and I need to get a little sun before it heads off to Hawaii, so here is the weekend weather and tide times.
Saturday, the Met say wall to wall sun with a Nor’West breeze during the morning and back to West’Sou’West 8-19kt during the afternoon (Nor’West in the morning is best for a sea breeze to occur.. in my book). Top temp of 22°C and the tide hits High at 10.07hrs on a 5.3m.
Sunday, pretty much a re-run of Saturday but with slight clouding, 7-20kt Nor’West breeze in the morning and back to West’Sou’West 11-24kt during the afternoon, with a top temp of 22°C and High is at 11am on a 5.8m.
And that is it for another week, even though I’m sure there was something important to mention but if I remember what it was , I will add it to the Saturday morning update. Have a great evening and the best of British to our Guys and Gals out in Hawaii..
