Windy Week, Claudia rips through, Shark bites in and more.. much more!

Ah ha!  Once again the 7 days of a week have passed and once more we are at the start of a weekend…so how good is that!

More wind, rain and weirdly warm weather again this week and it’s been topped off with a Spanish named storm, called Claudia, which allegedly would bring wind from the Sou’East but currently has brought us nothing much, apart from more rain. It was named by the Spanish as it caused havoc in the Canary Islands https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hK9W3mVkUg

We do hope that all of the ex-Shoreham’ites now living in the Canaries came through it unscathed.

Mid-week we were told that those in the South of the UK might get to see the Northern Lights, due to an extreme X5.1 Solar flare, but from where I live I only saw a faint ‘glow’ in the sky, which could have been normal light pollution. Anybody see anything from up on the Downs?

More news from around the World and this was from Australia, where the first shark attack on a wing foiler occurred, as far as we know. Thankfully and amazingly there were no injuries sustained.. well, the shark might have a very sore mouth. The News channels referred to the Margaret River foiler as a windsurfer but it was definitely a foil board that the shark took a chunk out of. One very lucky Aussie!   https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/ckg45vpyg3ro (I’ve used the BBC link, as they may need as much publicity they can get, if DT does sue them).

Quick reminder that the shop will be closed this coming Wednesday 19th, as I need to be elsewhere for the day. I will post this again on Monday, as I do know that weekends can blur the memory.

No further news regarding the megastore’s future at the moment but we are still hopeful that a buyer will be found to continue the shops 39 year ‘timeline’. Those of you who have credit with the Bank of Surfladle will be updated, just as soon as we know what’s happening.

As I mentioned at the start of this ramble, the week brought wind but Shoreham has not benefitted that much, due to the dreadful mix of an onshore wind direction and the tides being 5.1m Neaps, as Stuart Jago noted, after agreeing to go out when he knew it was not a great idea.. hence a nice washing machine session put him back on the beach near Ferry Road, after launching from the Church of the Good Shepherd.. we’ve all done it Stuart!. But it was good, for those that ventured West, as I heard from Barry Oldfield, who got up early on Monday and Wednesday, to bank a couple of good foiling sessions over at Hayling Island. But that was in the week, so will there be anything to be had with this weekend’s weather outlook..

Saturday arrives and..  the wind buggers off. Guru say 5-7kt Nor’East pretty much for the whole day and only increasing to 7-11kt by early evening. The Met say East 6-12kt until late afternoon when it will shift to Nor’East . Temperature stays up though, as a top temp of 16°C forecast by the Met, with sunny spells and not much shown in the way of rain. Tide is High at 07.43hrs on a 5.3m, which is a reasonably small tidal movement. Sea temp is currently 13.9°C but they predict that it’s likely to drop by 2°C in the next 10 days (average is 13.3°C for November)

Sunday, 11-21kt Nor’Nor’East all day, which the Met and Guru agree upon. Not as warm as Saturday, as 12°C is their top temp and it will be an overcast day but again, nothing in the way of rain. This is the start of next weeks plummeting air temperatures, as by Monday we are down to 8°C best and 5°C by Thursday, with a Northerly air flow predicted for the week. It’s been great while the warm lasted. Tide is High at 08.35hrs on a 5.6m.

And last of all, we’ve found a box of old boom front ends, including a couple of North, a Nautix, a Chinook,  a Bic junior boom front end and a rare BIC 250 48.5mm mastfoot. If any are of use,  just come and get it. (You can see a larger picture on our Facebook page.. Click here)  I’m off for a wet and muddy stroll across the fields but will be back in tomo, with clean shoes, to shoot a Saturday Morning Shaky video. Have a great Friday evening everyone.
